I then made my way down the stairs, trying to be as quiet as possible. As I approached the living room, I could see that the intruder had his back turned to me. Without hesitation, I swung the bat as hard as I could and hit him square in the back. The intruder let out a loud groan and fell to the ground, dropping the stolen items. I was feeling a mix of fear and adrenaline as I stood over the intruder holding the bat. I remember thinking that I never thought I would have the courage to defend myself like this.
