Dreams: An Insight Into Our Subconscious Mind Dreams have always fascinated humans. The art of interpreting dreams has been a topic of discussion and debate for centuries. Dreams are a reflection of our subconscious mind, and they offer a unique insight into our deepest thoughts and emotions. Our dreams are a product of our imagination and creativity. We never know what to expect from them, as they have no set rules or boundaries. They can be colorful, bizarre, inspiring, or terrifying. Such unpredictable and unexplainable events are what makes dreams so captivating. Dreams can be characterized into two types, namely, lucid dreams and structured dreams. Lucid dreams occur when we are aware we are dreaming, and we can steer its course, whereas structured dreams are those that follow a logical sequence and have a beginning, middle and end. Often, we have lucid dreams when we encounter recurring nightmares or anxiety-induced scenarios. Our mind creates a buffer, and we become an active participant in the dream, responding positively and thus alleviating our stress levels. Moreover, structured dreams allow our mind to work through our problems in a safe and controlled environment, offering solutions to our problems and providing us with a different perspective. However, not all dreams are easy to interpret. Our minds can create images or scenarios that may be hard to comprehend, contributing to apophenia, the act of creating meaning from random images or events. This is often why we have dreams that make no sense. In conclusion, dreams are essential to our mental and emotional wellbeing. It is a chance for our subconscious mind to manifest itself and create the scenarios that challenge our current thought processes. Therefore, we must embrace them and listen to what our minds have to say. Only then can we navigate our lives with clarity and insight.
